Round up: Huff at data center show; WSC acquired; Texas man in phony plant threat

By ExchangeMonitor

Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Katherine Huff was scheduled to give a keynote address at a data center conference scheduled for April 15 in Washington.

Huff was to give a talk titled “Energizing Tomorrow: The Role of Nuclear in the Clean Energy Revolution” at the Association for Computer Operations Management’s Data Center World Show. The group, which goes by AFCOM, is a trade association for information technology infrastructure professionals.

Curtiss-Wright Corp., Davidson, N.C., this week said it completed its $34-million cash acquisition of WSC, Inc., Frederick, Md., “a leading provider of state-of-the-art simulation technology that supports the design, commissioning, and reliable operation of commercial nuclear power generation and process plants worldwide,” according to a press release.

WSC developed the 3KEYMASTER simulator.

A man in Brownwood, Texas, was indicted in March for hacking into a cable network in 2021 and generating a false alert about a threat at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas, according to a local ABC news affiliate.

The man, which ABC 7 identified as Michael Smith, was charged with a breach of computer security, the station reported.
