Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) was awarded this week with the first annual Leo Duffy Decisionmakers Award by ExchangeMonitor Publications and Forums. Hastings, who is not seeking re-election this fall after serving 20 years in Congress, was presented with the award at this year’s Weapons Complex Monitor Decisionmakers’ Forum. Hastings, who represents Hanford and lives near the site, received the award for his long advocacy for the Department of Energy’s cleanup program, in part, by helping to found the Congressional Nuclear Cleanup Caucus. The award, named after the first head of the DOE cleanup program, recognizes “sustained national leadership in addressing the legacy of the U.S. nuclear weapons program, protecting the environment for future generations and supporting the communities that host these vital missions.”
