Michelle Reichert will next week become president and CEO of Consolidated Nuclear Security, the outgoing management and operations contractor for the Y-12 National Security Site in Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Texas, the Bechtel National-led company said Friday.
Reichert, currently chief operating officer for the prime, will replace Morgan Smith, who is retiring after six years.
“Morgan has been considering retirement for some time, and he decided the time is now right for him, for his family, and for an orderly transition to occur so that both sites can continue to focus on delivering the mission,” a Consolidated Nuclear Security spokesperson (CNS) wrote in an email Friday.
Bill Tindal, the current Y-12 site manager, will replace Reichert as CNS chief operating officer, after Reichert lands in the big chair next week. Tindal will be dual-hatted for a while and continue as the Y-12 site manager. The new site manager “will be announced soon,” the CNS spokesperson said.
In late June, the National Nuclear Security Administration announced it would not pick up the remaining time on CNS’ contract, awarded in 2014, citing time-card fraud and nuclear safety lapses, among other things. The company will leave three years’ worth of options on the table, under a contract worth some $2 billion annually.
The NNSA this week issued a request for information for the follow-on award, and said it expects to release the draft solicitation for the new combined Pantex and Y-12 contract in August.
