President Obama this week signed into law a two-year extension to the United States’ current civil nuclear agree-ment with South Korea, which now will not expire until March 19, 2016. The extension was needed because the Administration and South Korea require more time to work out sensitive issues, including potential restrictions on reprocessing and enrichment technologies, before the agreement had previously been set to expire this March. A Senate bill authorizing the extension passed the House and Senate late last month, while the House passed initial legislation last fall. The legislation directs the president to report to Congress every 180 days on the negotiations.
