Jacobs Solutions, Huntington Ingalls, BWX Technologies and others are among those seeking the National Nuclear Security Administration’s decade-spanning, $30-billion contract to manage the agency’s nuclear-weapons service center in Texas.
Pantex and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn., are currently managed for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) by Consolidated Nuclear Security, a Bechtel National-led team. The NNSA is splitting up management of the sites again and planned to award a standalone Pantex contract in 2024 and a standalone Y-12 contract in 2025.
Among the potential bidders for the Pantex contract is Pantex Mission Alliance, formed in June and registered in July with the federal government’s procurement database, the System for Award Management. That team is based out of a Jacobs office in Tennessee, according to filings in that database. Sources said Atkins is a partner on the team.
Pantex Production Technologies, formed in May and registered with the federal procurement system in July, is owned by Huntington Ingalls Industries, according to filings with the System for Award Management. Amentum, Chantilly, Va., is also on this team, sources said.
BWX Technologies has said publicly, including during its third-quarter investor conference call in August, that it is pursuing the Pantex contract, though it has not made the details of its bid public. Sources said BWX Technologies, which operated Pantex and Y-12 on separate contracts prior to the Bechtel-led incumbent, teamed with Fluor to bid on the standalone Pantex contract.
Sources also said that Bechtel National is leading a team pursuing the Pantex contract, bids for which are due Sept. 28.
Spokespersons for Amentum, Atkins and Bechtel did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
