Nuclear services company Orano projects it will double its output of dry-storage canisters, relative to 2020, after consolidating its heavy manufacturing in the United States, the company said in a statement.
In 2020, Orano fulfilled all of its customer contracts for its NUTECH horizontal modular storage system (NUHOMS) dry-storage canisters while operating at two-thirds manufacturing capacity at their flagship facility in Kernersville, N.C., the company said Friday in a press release.
“This is a major milestone for us, our customers, and U.S. used fuel management.” said Jean-Luc Palayer, U.S. chief operating officer, in the release.
With the Kernersville facility operating at full capacity, the company is set to double their output once again this year, the release said.
Between 2018 and 2020, Orano moved all of its manufacturing capabilities to the Kernersville site. The facility is optimized for manufacturing the company’s new NUHOMS Extended Optimized Storage (EOS) casks.
