Orano gets contract for dry-storage expansion at Wolf Creek

By ExchangeMonitor

Evergy gave Orano USA a contract to nearly double the size of the dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station site near Burlington, Kansas, the company said Wednesday in a press release.

The contract, financial details of which Orano did not provide in its press release, calls for the company to install another eight storage modules at Wolf Creek “later this year,” according to the release.

Orano also built Wolf Creek’s existing storage system. After the expansion, there would be 19 storage modules, the company wrote in the release.

Wolf Creek opened in 1985 and is licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to operate through 2045. Burlington, Kan., is about 100 miles southwest by road from Kansas City, Mo.
