Orano awarded contract to transfer and store spent fuel

By ExchangeMonitor

Orano USA signed a contract with an unidentified nuclear power plant in a Southern state to transfer and store used nuclear fuel onsite.

The contract between Maryland-based Orano USA and the nuclear energy facility was announced on Thursday in a press release. The Orano USA spokesperson said the company was not able to disclose the contract amount or partner at this time.

Orano TN, the Orano subsidiary in charge of nuclear logistics, will perform the transfer of used nuclear fuel assemblies from wet storage in holding pools to dry storage in existing onsite vertical cask systems. The pool-to-pad transfer is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

Following the pool-to-pad transfer, Orano will use its Nuclear Horizontal Modular Storage systems to proceed with the used nuclear fuel storage.
