The House Armed Services Committee will mark up the National Defense Authorization Act on Wednesday, the same day the Senate Armed Services Committee plans a late hearing on the Department of Energy’s nuclear weapons budget.
The full-committee markup was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Eastern time in the Rayburn House Office Building, room 2118. The Senate hearing was scheduled for 4:45 p.m Eastern time in the Russell Senate Office Building, room 222. Jill Hruby, administrator for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), is among the scheduled witnesses.
Last week, the House Armed Services Committee released bill and report language for the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The draft NDAA would authorize more money than requested for the NNSA’s weapons programs but less than requested for nonproliferation.
If the NNSA gets the appropriation the House committee’s bill authorizes, the agency would see its budget rise about $1 billion year over year.
The Senate Armed Services Committee planned to hold its annual closed-door markup of the upper chamber’s NDAA on June 12. The Senate committee typically does not release its bill and report language until after the closed-door markup.
