The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is revising its work policy to comply with recent White House directives, including getting most employees off telework and back to the office, a spokesperson said last week.
“The NRC is working to ensure compliance with the White House’s executive orders and companion guidance, where applicable,” an NRC spokesperson said last week in response to an Exchange Monitor inquiry. The NRC staff will be notified as actions are taken on these orders.
During his first week of second term in office, President Donald Trump issued a flurry of executive orders including ones dramatically curtailing telecommuting and remote work arrangements for federal employees.
As of October 2024, roughly 79% of NRC staff was teleworking to some degree (excluding fully remote workers), according to the spokesperson.
The NRC voted more than a year ago to scale back its flexible remote work arrangements. Like other federal agencies, NRC liberalized telework policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
