NRC RESCHEDULES REST OF POSTPONED WASTE CONFIDENCE MEETINGS

By ExchangeMonitor
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced yesterday the new dates for the postponed Waste Confidence meetings in Ohio and Minnesota along with an extension of the public comment period for an extra three weeks. The new dates and time extension were attributed to delays caused from the government shutdown two weeks ago. The two meetings in Ohio and Minnesota have been rescheduled for early December. The meeting in Perrysburg, Ohio will occur on Dec. 2 while the meeting in Minnetonka, Minn. will occur on Dec. 4. Overall, the time period for public comment has been extended to Dec. 20. According to a spokesman, the NRC wanted to allow extra time in case of any confusion. These meetings are being held to discuss the proposed Waste Confidence rule and draft environmental assessment that says spent fuel can be safely stored on site for 60 years past a reactors licensed life.
