NRC RE-SCHEDULES WASTE CONFIDENCE MEETINGS

By ExchangeMonitor

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced that it has rescheduled three out of five Waste Confidence public meetings that were postponed during the government shutdown. According to a blog post by Keith McConnell, director of the Waste Confidence directorate, the meetings in Illinois and California will be held in mid-November. The Oak Brook, Ill. meeting will occur on Nov. 12. In California, the Carlsbad meeting will occur on Nov. 18, and the San Luis Obispo meeting will occur on Nov. 20. The starting times and locations of the meetings have not changed, the post said. The NRC is still working on re-scheduling the meetings in Minnesota and Ohio, but it should have the dates scheduled by early next week. These meetings are being held to discuss the proposed Waste Confidence rule and draft environmental assessment that says spent fuel can be safely stored on site for 60 years past a reactor’s licensed life.
