The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will end mandatory telework and allow in-person work to resume by the end of next month, the agency said in a recent letter to staff.
As part of its “full re-entry” program, NRC staff can return to their offices September 26, the agency said in the letter dated July 30. Although telework will no longer be mandatory, NRC will continue to offer its staff “expanded telework opportunities,” the letter said. Commission employees have been working remotely since March 2020.
Although in-person work won’t resume until next month, NRC has already lifted its 25% occupancy limit for all agency buildings as “a first step” towards full re-entry, the letter said.
The letter does not say whether NRC will require staff to get vaccinated or wear masks indoors, but the commission said it will follow guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) which recommends both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals mask up indoors.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, NRC will continue to monitor changing conditions, and related CDC guidance, and will ensure appropriate steps are taken including, if necessary, the postponing of the full re-entry date,” the letter said.
