A Nuclear Regulatory Commission Inspector General report on Chairman Gregory Jaczko’s controversial management style is set to be released within weeks, RW Monitor has learned. The report was triggered after October, when Jaczko’s four fellow commissioners sent a letter to the White House saying his managerial style was creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation at the agency. “The committee staff has had a conversation with the NRC IG about the report. It was about the scope of the report, not going into the details of the report,” Matt Dempsey, an aide with the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, told RW Monitor this week. “It appears the report will be made available in the next 30 days.”

NRC IG REPORT ON MANAGEMENT OF CHAIRMAN JACZKO ON THE WAY
After the four other NRC commissioners wrote to the White House, they appeared with Jaczko at House Committee on Government Oversight hearings in December. That committee has continued to investigate Jaczko’s behavior, pointing out several instances where spoken and written testimony of Commissioners William Magwood, William Ostendorff, Kristine Svinicki, and George Apostolakis, as well as NRC Executive Director for Operations Bill Borchardt directly contradicted Jaczko’s claims that he had not interfered with the delivery of information to other commissioners, unilaterally changed commission documents against the majority will before releasing them publicly, or knowingly intimidated staff.. After receiving no response to a March 12 letter to Jaczko, committee Republicans sent a strongly worded follow-up May 7, reiterating their request for Jaczko to clarify or amend his testimony in light of their findings. That letter focused on Jaczko’s alleged severe conduct with female NRC employees, and several current employees testified about incidents that involved Jaczko getting angry and, at times, becoming verbally abusive at work.
