Two of President Donald Trump’s picks to the Nuclear Regulatory Commissioners will wait one more day, until today, for the the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to vote on their nominations.
Annie Caputo and David Wright are now up for a committee vote as part of a business meeting scheduled for noon Eastern time. The meeting was originally scheduled for Wednesday. If they are confirmed, the NRC would have five sitting members for the first time in years.
Caputo and Wright both sailed through their confirmation hearing earlier this month.
Caputo, a nuclear engineer who is now a senior policy adviser to Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wy.), would fill out the remainder of a five-year term through June 30, 2021.
Wright, an energy consultant who has led both the South Carolina Public Service Commission and the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, would serve the remainder of a vacant five-year term that ends on June 30, 2020.
The full Senate would still have to confirm Caputo and Wright, if the committee advances their nominations.
The Senate on Monday approved NRC Chair Kristine Svinicki to a third term, to June 30, 2022.
