The government of Norway will provide 360 million Norwegian kroner ($44.7 million) for the development of concept studies for a full-scale carbon capture and storage project in the nation. “CCS is one of the Government’s five prioritized areas for enhanced national climate action. In order to reach the Government’s ambition to realize a full-scale demonstration project for the capture, transport and storage of CO2, we have to work systematically to establish a thorough decision basis,” Petroleum and Energy Minister Tord Lien said in a Thursday press release.
Gassnova, the nation’s state enterprise for CCS, will move forward with concept studies with an option for front-end engineering and design (FEED), which will “be the basis for the concept decision regarding, inter alia, capture technology, development concepts and infrastructure,” the release says.
The government will contract with up to three proposed capture projects to move forward with the concept studies. The concept study phase will run until fall 2017. “Continuation of the project to a FEED phase will be considered in the budget for 2018,” the release says.
