With no new contract awarded yet, the Department of Energy will keep North Wind Portage on at least through August as its technical assistance provider at the Carlsbad Field Office in New Mexico, an agency spokesperson said Monday.
The $51.8-million small business contract that began in November 2015 would have otherwise expired June 3 without the extension. The spokesperson did not say in the Monday email what the roughly three-month extension is worth for the incumbent.
Almost eight months ago, DOE published its final request for proposals for a potential five-year, $100-million Carlsbad Technical Assistance Contract for the office that oversees the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. The bids were due in December. The DOE has already extended the contract once since the final RFP was issued.
“Our staff provides Quality Assurance support, technical oversight support, and administrative operations support to all CBFO [Carlsbad Field Office] program areas,” according to the North Wind Portage website. This includes technical support for transuranic waste certification, packaging, transportation, health and safety and engineering, according to the website.
