NO.2 OFFICIAL IN EM TO RETIRE AT THE END OF THIS YEAR

By ExchangeMonitor

Tracy Mustin, the No. 2 official in the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management, plans to retire from federal service at the end of this year. Mustin announced her retirement plans in a message to employees late last week, a copy of which was obtained by Weapons Complex Morning Briefing yesterday. “This is not a decision I have come to easily, but after almost 30 years of federal service, both in uniform and as a civilian, I believe that it is time to pursue a different path and to transition to the next phase of my professional career and private life,” she said.

Mustin was named in the summer of 2011 to serve as EM’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, having come to DOE’s cleanup program from the National Nuclear Security Administration. She is the second senior EM official to announce retirement plans in recent months; Associate Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Alice Williams is set to leave federal service on Jan. 2, 2014. A public search for a replacement to fill Williams’ position, known as “EM 2.1,” wrapped up yesterday.
