The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management has selected a manager from the semi autonomous National Nuclear Security Administration, Cathy Tullis, to be its next chief of staff effective July 17.
Tullis, currently chief of staff for the associate administrator for management and budget for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), will fill the position vacated by last month’s departure of then-Environmental Management (EM) chief of staff Michael Nartker, the cleanup office said in a Tuesday statement.
Over the years, Tullis has served in a number of NNSA director posts involving policy, communication and technology offices, EM Special Adviser William (Ike) White said in the announcement. Her LinkedIn bio indicates she has been working in NNSA supervisory roles since 2005. Tullis started her federal career with DOE’s Chicago operations office in 1984 and along the way, EM said she spent three years with NNSA’s Nevada Field Office along with various stints in NNSA offices in Germantown, Md., and Washington, D.C. headquarters.
Tullis has also worked with DOE safeguards and security. “Cathy’s organizational, management, technology and policy skills, along with her considerable experience and knowledge of DOE operations, will aid her in her new role in the EM organization,” White said Tuesday.
Erik Olds, communications director for EM, had been acting chief of staff since Nartker left June 24.
