In an apparent sign of problems at the Pantex Plant, the National Nuclear Security Administration has declared a “code blue” at the site. The move came after an “issue or condition” was discovered that could have “significant impact” on B61 and W80 weapons operations, NNSA spokeswoman Shelley Laver said in a written response late this week. She did not provide details, though, as to what “issue or condition” has been identified. “Declaring a code blue ensures engagement of not only senior NNSA and Pantex management, but also other experts across the NNSA enterprise who can assist in resolving the issue. NNSA remains on track to ensure that this issue at Pantex is resolved and scheduled deliverables to the Department of Defense are met,” Laver said in a written response. Pantex managing contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, referred questions late this week to the NNSA.
