NFT TAKES OVER WIPP TRUPACT MAINTENANCE WORK AFTER URS SALE

By ExchangeMonitor

The engineering and fabrication firm NFT yesterday completed its acquisition of the URS division in charge of maintaining and certifying waste management containers at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. URS had performed the work at the Engineered Products Division TRUPACT maintenance business under a subcontract to the WIPP contractor, URS-led Nuclear Waste Partnership. That subcontract has been passed on to NFT, though NFT declined to disclose the value of the sale and subcontract.

Under the deal, NFT will run a 40,000 square foot facility and associated equipment, increasing the company’s manufacturing capabilities. “NFT has been a longtime supplier of products and services supporting DOE and the WIPP program,” NFT Senior Vice President Terry Wickland told WC Monitor. “For us to have the opportunity to operate the TRUPACT maintenance is a perfect fit for our company. We will be able to position EPD and its incredible workforce and capability to rebuild this facility. It was a major manufacturer, and I think we can renew the life of that here.”
