News orgs call Washington’s fourth district for Newhouse re-election

By ExchangeMonitor

NBC News and the Associated Press projected that incumbent Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse, whose fourth congressional district borders the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site, won his race over a GOP rival backed by Donald Trump.

Both the Associated Press and NBC News now list Newhouse as the projected winner of the Nov. 5 House election over veteran and former NASCAR driver Jerrod Sessler. Multiple media outlets in Washington state reported Wednesday that Newhouse has declared himself the winner.

The Washington secretary of state’s latest election results updated Tuesday afternoon list Newhouse with about 51.8% or 132,000 votes to Sessler’s 46.5% and 119,000 votes.

Newhouse is one of just a couple of Republicans remaining in the House of Representatives who voted to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021 riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol. Trump, the former and now president-elect, has endorsed rival Republicans against Newhouse in both House elections since then.

Newhouse is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
