NBC News and the Associated Press projected that incumbent Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse, whose fourth congressional district borders the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site, won his race over a GOP rival backed by Donald Trump.
“The results from this election show the people want a results-driven leader who understands the unique challenges facing Central Washington,” Newhouse said in a Monday article in the Washington State Standard. “I’m committed to protecting the Lower Snake River dams, keeping the government’s promise to clean up the Hanford Site, and standing up to Communist China.”

Multiple media organizations have reported the GOP has reached the necessary 218 members to retain control of the House of Representatives. As of Thursday morning, Republicans had won the necessary 218 seats for a majority with the Democrats at 208. The GOP will now control the White House, Senate and House in 2025.
Both the Associated Press and NBC News now list Newhouse as the projected winner of the Nov. 5 House election over veteran and former NASCAR driver Jerrod Sessler. Multiple media outlets in Washington state reported Wednesday that Newhouse has declared himself the winner.
The Washington secretary of state’s latest election results updated Tuesday afternoon list Newhouse with about 51.8% or 132,000 votes to Sessler’s 46.5% and 119,000 votes.
Newhouse is one of just a couple of Republicans remaining in the House of Representatives who voted to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021 riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol. Trump, the former and now president-elect, has endorsed rival Republicans against Newhouse in both House elections since then.
Newhouse is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
