Candice Robertson, the new acting head of the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management, lauded both her predecessor, William (Ike) White, and the employees of the $8-billion nuclear cleanup office in a Monday email to staff.
“I am deeply honored and privileged to lead the DOE Office of Environmental Management as we mark our 35th anniversary as the world’s largest environmental remediation program,” Robertson said in an “EM Colleagues” email viewed by Exchange Monitor.
“I would like to thank Ike White for his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to our mission and to making EM a great place to work,” Robertson said in her day-one message to staff.
“I’m truly humbled by this opportunity. For 35 years, tens of thousands of employees have worked in EM, many for the entire lifetime of this program, to fulfill our mission ― completing safe cleanup across our sites,” Robertson said.
“I have been fortunate to get to know and work with many of you during my time in the program,” Robertson said. “For those I don’t know, I look forward to getting the chance to hear from you at EM headquarters and in my visits out to the field.”
Robertson, a longtime federal manager, was appointed senior adviser in charge of Environmental Management last month by DOE following the White House announcement that President Joe Biden was nominating White to serve on the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board.
