Saskatchewan’s New Democratic Party on Tuesday accused provincial Minister of the Economy Bill Boyd of the Saskatchewan Party of withholding documents regarding the province’s carbon capture and storage efforts for six weeks. According to a NDP release, at a Jan. 5 meeting of the legislative Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies, Boyd said he would provide detailed responses and supporting documents related to questions he was unable to answer at that time.
The requested documents relate to SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Unit 3 carbon capture and storage project located near Regina. Member of the Legislative Assembly Cathy Sproule of the NDP Party accused the Saskatchewan Party of lying about the performance of the project to make it appear more successful than it is.
“Boyd committed to provide information including details about the business case, the newest contract with the sole buyer of the carbon captured, and the criteria they’re using to determine if Boundary Dam 4 and 5 will be converted. The shareholders of SaskPower – the people of Saskatchewan – are entitled to that information,” Sproule said in the release.
The Ministry of the Economy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
