Lawmakers will debate a version of the National Defense Authorization Act that allocates $25 billion in funding for the National Nuclear Security Administration as both the House and the Senate look at the bill this week in closed markups.
The House Rules Committee debated H.R. 8070, the House version of the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), on Tuesday June 11. This version of the bill allocates $33.3 billion in funding to the Department of Energy, with $25 billion going toward the National Nuclear Security Administration. It will also look at provisions such as preventing Chinese and Russian nationals from entering nuclear weapons facilities, a provision the administration states it is against.
The House Rules Committee will also discuss retiring W76-2 warheads. The White House has not made a statement on this provision.
On Wednesday, the House reconvenes to vote on whether to approve the NDAA.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday June 12 through Friday June 14, the Senate Armed Services Committee will conduct a closed markup of their version of the NDAA.
