The U.K.’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has responded to critical reports on performance at the United Kingdom’s Sellafield site from a Parliamentary committee and the U.K. National Audit Office. In late January the Public Accounts Committee of the U.K. House of Commons raised issues about schedule delays, cost increases and contract structures that the Committee claimed increase the risk to taxpayers. The NDA agreed to the Committee’s six recommendations and set performance targets in a 60-page response released late last week. “We have worked closely with the National Audit Office and engaged openly with the Public Accounts Committee to recognise and agree key issues that need to be progressed,” NDA CEO John Clarke said in a statement. “The net result has been to develop a set of recommendations with a clear timetable for implementation. These will contribute to the NDA’s drive to improve performance at Sellafield and I would like to thank all those involved in helping the NDA achieve this positive result.”
