A group led by Navarro Research and Engineering is expected to start its transition Jan. 4 as the new contractor at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state, a source said this week.
Hanford’s DOE site manager, Brian Vance, said last week during an appearance before the Hanford Advisory Board to expect the new laboratory contractor, Hanford Laboratory Management and Integration, to begin transition early next month.
In late September, DOE Office of Environmental Management awarded the $389-million 222-S Laboratory Contract to Hanford Laboratory Management and Integration, a team which consists of Navarro and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International, a subsidiary of Planned Systems International.
The 100-day transition period is part of a five-year base period that is followed by two one-year options. The new contract replaces two existing agreements. One is a roughly $53-million contract for testing and laboratory analysis held by Veolia Nuclear Solutions Federal, which bought Wastren Advantage. That contract dates to September 2015.
In addition, Amentum-led Washington River Protection Solutions currently directs laboratory operations as part of its $7.8-billion tank management contract that started in October 2008. Maryland-based Amentum is a subcontractor to the new Navarro-led team.
The DOE issued its request for proposals for the new laboratory contract in February 2019.
