Nano Nuclear Energy has recently appointed former Secretary of Energy Rick Perry as its Chairman of its executive advisory board.
The startup nuclear company headquartered in New York, N.Y. made the announcement on June 10 in a press release.
Nano Nuclear’s executive advisory board is made up of various governmental, military and science experts from the United States and other countries. With the appointment of Perry as the chair of the board, Nano Nuclear said he will lead its overall efforts to assist the company.
The company primarily focuses on microreactors such as its KRONOS microreactor that is made to be portable and produce up to 15 megawatts of electricity.
Perry previously served as the Department of Energy from 2017 to 2019, during President Donald Trump’s first term. During his tenure, Perry revisited the idea of Yucca Mountain in Nevada as a repository for nuclear waste.
The 1982 the Nuclear Waste Policy Act insisted on use of deep geologic repositories for nuclear waste. However, President Barack Obama cancelled the Yucca Mountain project in 2010.
Prior to his stint as the Secretary of Energy, Perry previously served as the governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015 and held other elected positions. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1977.
Perry graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in animal science.
