The United Kingdom’s parliamentary Energy and Climate Change Committee has launched an inquiry into the potential effects on energy policy of the nation’s decision to leave the European Union. The nation voted in late June to leave the European Union, a decision which has resulted in many unanswered question.
“The UK energy sector has a number of existing links with the European Union, through trade, directives and interconnection. While Member States, including the UK, retain sovereignty over their energy mix, parts of UK energy policy have been driven by EU-wide directives and proposals,” according to the inquiry.
Through the inquiry, the committee has requested public insight in the form of written submissions. Submissions are to be no more than 3,000 words and must be submitted by Sept. 14, 2016.
