Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility Contractor Shaw AREVA MOX Services earned 50 percent of its available award fee in fiscal year 2012, or about $4.4 million, according to information released yesterday by the National Nuclear Security Administration. This comes after last week an NNSA official revealed that the contractor earned no incentive fee in FY 2011 and FY 2012, meaning that it only earned about 19 percent of the total available combined award and incentive fees in FY 2012. That compares to the contractor earning about 81 percent of its award fee in FY 2011, or $7 million.
Overall MOX Services received a “satisfactory” rating for FY12 from NNSA in award fee. Areas in which the contractor performed well include health safety and environmental, MOX Fuel Codes and Community Outreach, which all received a score of between 80 percent and 100 percent from NNSA. Areas receiving low marks included engineering and construction, project management and business systems, quality assurance and timely response and lessons learned, which all received marks of between 1 percent and 51 percent. After an initial assessment in December, the NNSA received a request from MOX Services to reevaluate the engineering and construction effectiveness category. As a result, in late January the NNSA changed the rating in that area from unsatisfactory to satisfactory and revised the score in that category to 1 percent.
