New details have emerged on the Department of Energy’s latest plans to once again extend S.M. Stoller’s current contract to provide support services for DOE’s Office of Legacy Management as the Department continues to re-evaluate bids for the follow-on contract. While DOE said last week that it has provided Stoller with a notice of intent to extend its current contract, a Department official said yesterday that the extension could keep Stoller in place for another nine months if fully exercised. “The extension would begin Oct.1 and go for six months to March 31, 2014. There is an additional option to extend the Task Order, if necessary, through June 30, 2014,” the official said.
Stoller’s contract was initially set to expire in September 2012, but it has received several extensions because of the time it has taken to complete the procurement for the follow-on contract. Bids for the follow-on contract were submitted in February 2012, and in April 2013 DOE announced that Portage had won the follow-on contract, estimated at the time to be worth approximately $250 million over five years. However, a team of Wastren Advantage-Stoller a team led by Navarro Research and Engineering each chose to protest DOE’s decision to the Government Accountability Office, and as a result DOE chose to take corrective action by re-evaluating bids—a process that is still ongoing.
