The site tour and pre-soliciation conference for the Department of Energy’s Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) technical assistance contract last week drew at least 42 attendees representing more than 30 organizations.
The department on Dec. 1 issued a draft request for proposals for the contract, which would cover services for the Utah cleanup site including records management; information technology and telecommunications infrastructure; training; public affairs; property management; regulatory compliance; groundwater interim action; documentation support; and environment, safety, and health support.
S&K Logistics Services holds the current contract through June 19 of next year. The company’s vice president for operations, Steve Hartley, was among the participants who signed in for the Dec. 14 conference.
A number of other veteran DOE hands also sent representatives, including Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Wastren Advantage, Navarro Research & Engineering, and Atkins Nuclear Secured. Other participating companies included AWS, Enercon Federal Services (also in the running for DOE’s deep borehole nuclear waste storage test contract), Information Technology Solutions, Pro2Serve, Spectra Tech, and Weston Solutions, among a number of others.
Today is the last day for filing comments on the draft RFP, which can be sent to Contracting Officer John Blecher at [email protected].
The Moab cleanup program involves relocation of millions of tons of mill tailings and other material from the onetime uranium ore processing plant and nearby properties to a final disposal site at Crescent Junction, Utah. Cleanup contractor Portage Inc. is doing the work under a five-year, $156 million follow-on contract that lasts to Sept. 30, 2021.
