On Friday, the Missouri House passed a bill offering tax breaks to expand the National Nuclear Security Administration’s nuclear-weapons-parts plant in Kansas City.
“This is a huge economic benefit for Kansas City,” Rep. Chris Brown (R-Kansas City), who sponsored the bill alongside then-state-Sen. Greg Razer (D-Jackson County), told the Kansas City Star on Friday.
The bill offers sales tax exemptions for construction materials to lessen the cost of expanding the Kansas City National Security Complex, a Honeywell International subsidiary operated plant that produces the non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons. Missouri Gov. Mike Parsons must sign the bill for it to become law.
The Missouri Senate passed the bill last month after defeating a proposed amendment to assist St. Louis residents affected by radioactive waste in the community.
