After receiving no bids initially, the legacy cleanup contractor for the Energy Department’s Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico is extending its search by two weeks for a subcontractor to provide background checks on job applicants.
Newport News Nuclear BWXT-Los Alamos (N3B) pushed back the proposal deadline from Monday until 3 p.m. Mountain time on Aug. 19. The remediation contractor announced the change in a Friday posting on the Federal Business Opportunities website.
The subcontractor would provide N3B with pre-employment screening in order to help ensure prospective new hires are trustworthy and reliable. Among other things, the subcontractor must verify the applicant’s identity and Social Security number. The vendor would also check criminal records, court records, credit reports, educational background, military service, and employment history.
N3B anticipates awarding a subcontract that would start later this month and carry a base period through April 2023. The award would feature two potential option periods that could keep the winning firm employed an additional five years through April 2028.
In the solicitation documents, N3B intentionally did not disclose the identity of its current vendor, but said the firm is meeting contract requirements. The solicitation documents don’t provide any cost estimates for the planned firm-fixed-price subcontract.
Bids should be sent electronically to Contractor’s Representative Julie Baer, at [email protected].
In April 2018, N3B began its $1.4 billion, 10-year legacy cleanup contract at Los Alamos. Its work includes tearing down old structures, remediation of contaminated legacy waste sites, and protecting a major regional aquifer.
