LOOKING AHEAD

Here’s a look at some of the events we’ll be following this week:

  • On Nov. 18-19, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board is scheduled to hold a two-day technical workshop in Washington on the “Impacts of Dry-Storage Canister Designs on Future Handling, Storage, Transportation and Geologic Disposal of Spent Nuclear Fuel in the United States.” Among those scheduled to present at the workshop are Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair Alison Macfarlane and Assistant Energy Secretary for Nuclear Energy Peter Lyons.   • On Nov. 19, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards is scheduled to hold a meeting on proposed revisions to the 10 CFR Part 61 low-level waste regulations. The meeting is set to be held at the NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md.
  • On Nov. 20, the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board is scheduled to hold its fall Board meeting in Washington on “DOE Research and Development Related to Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste Management.” The full agenda for the meeting can be found here.
  • On Nov. 20, Department of Energy cleanup chief David Huizenga is scheduled to discuss DOE’s strategy for addressing Hanford’s tank waste at a meeting of the National Academies’ Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board.
