LOOKING AHEAD

Here are the events we’ll be keeping an eye on this week:

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will mark up a bill authorizing an extension of the U.S. 123 Agreement with South Korea at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Room 419 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Madelyn Creedon, President Obama’s pick to be the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Principal Deputy Administrator, will appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for her confirmation hearing alongside several other Administration nominees. The hearing will take place in room G-50 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
U.S. tactical nuclear weapons will be the subject of a discussion Thursday involving Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.), former Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, and Global Zero Chairman Richard Burt. The event, “Benefit or Burden? The Future of U.S. Tactical Nuclear Weapons,” will take place at 1 p.m. in Room 2456 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
A Nuclear Export Controls Summit in Washington, DC, on Wednesday and Thursday will include a presentation Thursday on 123 Agreements by Richard Stratford, State Department Director of the Nuclear Energy Safety and Security Office.
The 29th Annual Institute of Nuclear Materials Management’s Spent Fuel Management Seminar will take place Jan. 13-15 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va. Topics include updates on the Yucca Mountain re-start, updates on Department of Energy spent fuel management efforts, and international perspectives on spent fuel management.
