LOOKING AHEAD

By ExchangeMonitor

Here’s a look at some of the key events we will be keeping an eye on this week:

  • The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works will hold a hearing Sept. 12 on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s implementation of nuclear safety enhancement recommendations the agency made in light of the Fukushima accident. All five of the NRC commissioners, including new Chairman Allison Macfarlane, will appear at the hearing, which will begin at 10 a.m., and will be webcast on http://epw.senate.gov;
  • The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on Sept. 12 to discuss the Nuclear Waste Administration Act, introduced by committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) on Aug. 1. The hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Bingaman introduced the legislation after bilateral discussions on crafting legislation based on the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future between Bingaman and Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) broke down;
  • On Friday the full House is scheduled to vote on the No More Solyndras Act, aimed at reforming the Department of Energy’s Loan Guarantee program.
