Here’s a look at some of the stories we’ll be following this week:
- On Tuesday, the Department of Energy is holding an industry day in Paducah, Ky., to gauge interest from companies that may be interested in using facilities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
- On Wednesday, outgoing Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters Steve Henry is scheduled to speak at the Capitol Hill Club at 8 a.m. as part of the Congressional Breakfast Seminar Series. Henry is leaving the Pentagon Aug. 6 to head up global security work at the Nevada National Security Site.
- Also on Wednesday, the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee is holding a hearing titled “Nonproliferation and Disarmament: What’s the Connection and What Does that Mean for U.S. Security and Obama Administration Policy?” The hearing, which was rescheduled from two weeks ago, will take place at 3 p.m. in Room 2118 of the Rayburn House Office Building and will include testimony from former Assistant Secretary of State Stephen Rademaker, Kori Schake of the Hoover Institution, and former Clinton Administration Special Representative for Arms Control, Nonproliferation and Disarmament Thomas Graham.
- Also on Wednesday, USEC plans to hold its second quarter earnings call with investors at 8:30 a.m.
- On Thursday, the Texas Compact Commission will hold a hearing in Austin, Texas, where it will consider amendments to current applications for import to Waste Control Specialists’ Andrews, Texas, disposal facility, and hear an update on progress at the site as well as WCS’ financial projections for the year. The meeting will be held at the Texas State Capitol in hearing room E 1.028, and will also be webcast.
