LOOKING AHEAD

Here’s a look at several key meetings and events we’ll be following this week: 

  • Nuclear experts will address NATO’s Deterrence and Defense Posture Review and the future of tactical nuclear weapons in Europe on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. during the second day of a two-day “NATO Shadow Summit” in Room 602 of George Washington University’s Lindner Family Commons. The two-day conference begins today, and serves as a preview to the NATO Summit in Chicago, which begins May 20.
  • The House of Representatives is expected to take up the Fiscal Year 2013 Defense Authorization Act, which includes the National Nuclear Security Administration and DOE’s Office of Environmental Management, on Wednesday.
  • Former U.S. United Nations envoy John Bolton, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and several other nuclear experts will discuss “Tightening the Nuclear Nonproliferation Rules: The Role of Congress and the Executive” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2200 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
  • On Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. the Nuclear Regulatory Commission plans to hold a public meeting on potential changes to the quality assurance plan for the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md.
