Steven Lawrence, until this year the manager of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Nevada Field Office, appeared to tweet Tuesday afternoon that he is receiving chemotherapy.
As I sit in the infusion center getting chemo, my heart goes out to everyone dealing with cancer or other life changing events, including our caregivers…. Stay strong and never give up! 💪🏻💜

Lawrence had been the manager of the agency’s Nevada field office since 2013, but an NNSA spokesperson said Tuesday that Lawrence left that position in January to become senior technical advisor for field operations at office of the NNSA administrator — the same job listed in the bio of the unverified Twitter account purporting to belong to Lawrence.
Lawrence could not immediately be reached for comment on Tuesday. He has worked at the Nevada site for nearly 20 years, according to his official bio.
In April, a tweet from the Twitter account that identifies itself as Lawrence, which mostly retweets content from verified National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) accounts, urged people to take advantage of medical treatments that can detect and prevent cancer.
April is national cancer control month. Early detection and prevention basics are key tools everyone should utilize.

An NNSA organization chart dated current as of August 2020 shows Dave Bowman as the acting manager of the Nevada field office. The previous organization chart, which was current as of July 2020, showed Lawrence as the full-time manager. Among his other jobs, Bowman has been the deputy associate administrator for counterterrorism & counterproliferation at NNSA headquarters in Washington.
