Longtime Bechtel hand joins Atkins board of directors

Atkins Nuclear Secured Holding Corp. has appointed a former Bechtel National executive, Michael Hughes, to serve as an outside director on the Atkins board of directors, the company said in a Monday press release.

Hughes, who has 35 years of experience leading nuclear ventures around the Department of Energy’s weapons complex, will provide oversight for corporate activities and security compliance, Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, said in the release.

As part of his work, Hughes has helped manage cleanup at DOE’s Hanford Site in Washington state and also held key management jobs at Idaho National Laboratory, the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, the Oak Ridge Site in Tennessee, the Paducah Site in Kentucky, the Portsmouth Site in Ohio, the Savannah River Site in South Carolina and the Sellafield Site in the United Kingdom.
