LLNL Executive Killed in Accident

By ExchangeMonitor
Kathy Baker, chief financial officer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), was killed last week when an elderly woman drove an SUV into a gym where Baker was participating in a class. Five other people suffered nonfatal injuries in the incident. Baker, 49, had worked at LLNL since 2001 and became its chief financial officer in 2012. “This is a tragedy for her immediate family as well as her Lab family,” lab director Bill Goldstein said in a statement. “Kathy was a special person and a valued member of our Laboratory. It is hard to put into words just how much she will be missed.” Deputy Director Tom Gioconda added in a statement, “Life is a gift and Kathy brought plenty of gifts to this Lab. We will hold her in our hearts.”
