Amid the winter rainstorms pounding California, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has temporarily curtailed all but essential activity at its experimental test site in the San Francisco Bay Area, a spokesperson said this week.
“Site 300 was in minimum safe configuration this week due to infrastructure conditions on roadways leading to the site,” a lab spokesperson said. “Conditions will be assessed on Monday. There continue to be no notable damages at the Lab’s main site or Site 300.”
Site 300 was limited to minimum safe operations on Jan. 9 after a brief respite from an earlier lockdown on Jan. 4-5, the lab told the Exchange Monitor this week.
The Site 300 campus, where the lab conducts explosive tests, among others, is about 15 miles south of Livermore.
A series of storms that began in late December have pounded California with wind, snow and rain, leading to flooding, blizzards and widespread evacuations.
