Lebak Leaving Los Alamos and DOE

By ExchangeMonitor

Kim Davis Lebak, manager of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office, will retire after nearly 30 years at the Energy Department.

Davis, who has managed the Los Alamos Field Office for the past three years or so, will leave the agency in “early October,” a spokesperson for the semiautonomous Department of Energy agency said Monday.

Steve Goodrum, now NNSA’s assistant deputy administrator for stockpile management in the Defense Programs office, will replace Lebak.

As manager of the Los Alamos Field Office since 2014, Lebak directly oversaw all federal operations at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, including the $2 billion management and operations contract held by Los Alamos National Security: a partnership of Bechtel National, the University of California, BWX Technologies, and AECOM.

Lebak previously was field office manager for DOE’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California for two years. Before Livermore, Lebak was the deputy field office manager for DOE’s Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico. She joined the department in 1989.

Lebak will depart right around the time the NNSA expects to solicit proposals for a new 10-year contract to manage and operate the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The agency in 2014 decided not to pick up further options on the incumbent’s contract after a series of nuclear safety lapses at the lab.
