The prime contractor for the Hanford Site’s primarily solid-waste cleanup program on the complex’s central plateau laid off 60 people on Oct. 1, the company’s president said.
Amid a six-month hiring freeze “we made the difficult decision to lay off approximately 60 CPCCo employees as part of a necessary restructuring to align our workforce with current priorities,” Bob Wilkinson, president and project manager of Central Plateau Cleanup Co. wrote in an email to employees.
The local Tri-City Herald first reported the layoffs.
Central Plateau Cleanup Co. planned to “work closely with One Hanford contractors and other community resources to offer assistance as they seek new employment,” Wilkinson wrote.
The layoffs affected both union and non-union workers, a site spokesperson wrote Tuesday in an email.
Central Plateau Cleanup Co. is led by Amentum, with partners Fluor Federal Services and Atkins Nuclear Secured. Awarded in 2019, the company’s Central Plateau Cleanup Contract has a 10-year ordering period and is worth up to $10 billion. DOE can place task orders under the contract through December 10, 2029.
