LAWMAKERS TO QUESTION DOE ON URANIUM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Lawmakers supporting the uranium mining industry are planning to send a letter to the Department of Energy tomorrow expressing concern about the impacts of the Department’s most recent Excess Uranium Inventory Management Plan, WC Monitor has learned. DOE released the plan publicly last summer, and it found that the Department’s increases in uranium sales and transfers would not have an adverse impact on the mining industry. However, with uranium prices at a low, industry supporters believe that the Department’s transfers are hurting uranium miners. The lawmakers plan to ask DOE to limit transfers to no more than the total annual domestic production, WC Monitor has learned.
