Nearly 120 people tuned in to a recent online presolicitation conference to learn more about a planned stand-alone contract for management of the Energy Department’s Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) in South Carolina.
Representatives for universities, consultants, and DOE contractors ranging from small shops to major corporations participated in the April 28 event on the draft request for proposals released April 9 for the potential 10-year, $3.8 billion contract.
Augusta University, Associated Universities, South Carolina State University, Southeastern Universities Research Association, Universities Research Association, Georgia Tech, the University of California, and the University of Georgia all provided representatives, according to recently released Energy Department documents. The list of frequent DOE or Defense Department contractors that participated included Amentum, Atkins, Battelle, Booz Allen Hamilton, Boston Government Services, Fluor, General Dynamics, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Jacobs, Longenecker, North Wind, and Veolia.
The facility is now managed by Fluor-led Savannah River Nuclear Solutions under its operations contract for the entire Savannah River Site. By providing a separate manager for the lab, the Energy Department hopes to foster a closer relationship with the research community.
The Energy Department has said the final RFP could be issued in June, with the contract itself awarded by the end of the year.
