Janos Pasztor, former assistant U.N. secretary general on climate change, on Friday was appointed senior adviser for climate change to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. “In his new role as Senior Adviser to the Secretary-General on Climate Change, Mr. Pasztor will support efforts of the Secretary-General to mobilize world leaders and all sectors of society to implement the landmark Paris Agreement,” according to a statement from Ban’s office.
In his previous role, Pasztor helped oversee the U.N.’s climate change efforts, which culminated in adoption of the Paris Agreement in December. The accord is the first universal global agreement to combat climate change. “The Secretary-General expresses his deep gratitude for Mr. Pasztor’s dedicated service and leadership over the past quarter of a century with the United Nations on the key global challenges of climate change, energy and sustainability,” the statement says.
