INTERNATIONAL RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL TRANSPORT CONFERENCE KICKS OFF

The International Symposium on the Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive Material kicks off today in San Francisco and lasts through the week. Speakers at the conference include Department of Energy cleanup chief Dave Huizenga, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Commissioner George Apostolakis, DOE Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Pete Lyons and Denis Flory, head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security International Atomic Energy Agency. It also features a host of technical sessions on topics including regulatory issues, transport operations and package design. The event takes place only once every three years, and alternates between a location in the United States and a place outside the country.
